Hearts boss targets wins in next two matchesBy BARRY ANDERSON JOHN McGLYNN today targeted six points and nothing less from Hearts’ next two matches against Motherwell and Ross County, both of which are at Tynecastle. The manager said he would accept a points total of 15 at the end of the first quarter of the league campaign but acknowledged improvement is needed thereafter. The Edinburgh club are currently ninth in the Scottish Premier League with nine points entering a crucial period of matches. Following two consecutive home league games is the Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-final with Dundee United at Tannadice. McGlynn, though, is focusing only on the two forthcoming league games. He wants Hearts to kickstart their campaign after the international break by taking three points from Motherwell on Sunday, followed by another three against Ross County the following Saturday. “We came back in on Monday after a few days off and we’re setting ourselves up for the Motherwell game. I think we need to look for six points from our next two matches,” McGlynn told the Evening News. “If you’re setting a small target to finish the first quarter of the SPL, then I think 15 points wouldn’t be a bad return. “I’m not saying that’s what we wanted at the outset, but the maximum we can get from this quarter is 15 points. I’m sure we can amass more points in the next quarter considering the number of points we’ve thrown away. I expect us to do better in the next quarter. These two games are not easy by any means. Motherwell have been going extremely well and Ross County have made it difficult for most teams. They lost their 40-game unbeaten league run recently and then lost a couple since then, but they don’t make it easy for you. “We take nothing for granted but we have to target six points, nothing less.” Taken from the Scotsman |
