Hearts kids star in Scots’ winPublished on Tuesday 16 October 2012 12:00 HEARTS pair Kevin McHattie and Dale Carrick made their first starts as Scotland Under-21s beat their Canadian counterparts 2-0 in their final International Challenge Match at the Marbella Football Centre in Spain. Goals by Stuart Armstrong and Tony Watt gave Scotland the win in a match which also featured Tynecastle starlets Jason Holt and David Smith. Manager Billy Stark had to reshuffle due to Aberdeen defender Ryan Jack suffering a broken foot during the 2-0 defeat by the United States on Friday, but the Scots started brightly and were soon ahead. Smith and Dylan McGeouch both had efforts saved by Canada goalkeeper Richard Gomes before Dundee United midfielder Armstrong drilled the ball into the corner of the net. Scotland had a penalty claim when Holt appeared to be dragged to the ground, but referee Valle Carmona waved play on. In the final minute, Celtic striker Watt, who had replaced Carrick just after the hour mark, sealed the win. Taken from the Scotsman |
