Club takes action

21.09.2012

Heart of Midlothian FC today revealed it will ban indefinitely the fans who spilled onto the Anfield pitch in the second leg of the Europa League clash with Liverpool.

Two supporters were removed from the ground after taking to the pitch to celebrate the Jambos taking the lead in the closing stages of the tie.

UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body today announced the Edinburgh club has been fined £4000 for the transgressions.

A Hearts spokesperson said: "We acknowledge the decision by UEFA following the scenes which greeted the opening goal in the Europa League tie against Liverpool at Anfield.

"The vast majority of the thousands of Hearts supporters who made the journey to Liverpool behaved impeccably, and in fact they drew glowing praise from the Merseyside police authorities for the manner in which they enjoyed the occasion.

"However, we cannot condone fans running on to the pitch during a match, no matter the circumstances, and as such we are dealing with the guilty parties as strongly as we can and that will include handing out indefinite bans for them at Tynecastle Stadium."
