'Pool's previous visit23.08.2012 As the clock ticks down to this evening's big kick-off, we take a look back at the last time Liverpool were in Gorgie. Hearts and Liverpool have not met since 1929 and the Reds have not faced the Maroons at Tynecastle since 1899. However, the English giants were on our ground in more recent times when the Edinburgh Select forced a 2-2 draw in what was then an Annual Charity Match. The game took place on 2 August, 1958 before a crowd of 25,000. Jimmy Murray opened the scoring for the Select after 11 minutes but on the half-hour mark, Billy Liddell smashed home the equaliser. The Liverpool line-up In 47 minutes, Liddell headed Liverpool in front and Willie Ormond scored the Select's second goal after 60 minutes. A decent contest therefore ended in a 2-2 draw. Edinburgh: Wilson Brown (Hearts); John Grant (Hibs) and George Thomson (Hearts); Eddie Turnbull (Hibs), John Paterson (Hibs) and John Cumming (Hearts); Alex Young (Hearts), Jimmy Murray (Hearts), Willie Bauld (Hearts), Tommy Preston (Hibs) and Willie Ormond (Hibs). Liverpool: Tommy Younger; John Molyneux and Ronnie Moran; Johnny Wheeler, Dick White and Barry Wilkinson; Fred Morris, James Harrower, Billy Liddell, Jimmy Melia and Alan A'Court . Hearts World |
