Tynecastle men must 'grasp the moment' against Celtic

Kevin Kyle has told Hearts that Celtic are not invincible as the two clubs prepare to meet in Sunday's William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final.

The striker, who agreed to terminate his Tynecastle contract last month as he fights his way back from a career-threatening hip injury, will look on enviously as his former team-mates bid to defy the odds and reach the showpiece final.

Newly-crowned Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions Celtic eased to a 4-0 win in Edinburgh two months ago and are overwhelming favourites to inflict the same fate on Paulo Sergio's side at Hampden. But Kyle insists Hearts have nothing to fear, especially since they got the better of Neil Lennon's team last October.

Kyle, who has been invited back for pre-season training by Sergio, said: "To get to a semi-final is an achievement in itself and it will obviously be a hard game with Celtic having won the league. But hopefully they've had a massive party and are a bit hungover. There is no reason to fear them, they're not invincible. Hearts have put in some right good performances against Celtic and they beat them earlier this season.

"The boys have to realise that they're one game away from getting to a Scottish Cup final and creating history. You have to go out and play without any fear, like Kilmarnock did in the League Cup final.

"You would have to think that whoever wins this game will be favourites to lift the trophy. It's a great chance and I'm sure that's what the manager will be stressing to the players."

Kyle, who has four weeks left of his rehabilitation programme, having been sidelined since January last year, knows the importance of the experienced squad members can't be underestimated. He added: "I suppose it can appear a scary prospect going up against Celtic in the semi-final of a national competition. There will be a bigger crowd than what they're used to, but guys like Andy Webster will be talking and guiding the young players through it. There are also people like Marius Zaliukas and Rudi Skacel. Rudi is the kind of player that could produce something . . . you know what can happen if he gets a chance.

"It's the kind of game in which you have to be clinical, because you will not get many chances to score. You have to grasp the moment."
