Supporters livid as season tickets rocket by £90 in two hours

Published on Saturday 24 March 2012 02:50

Hearts last night hailed their “dynamic pricing” of season tickets as a success, despite some irate supporters venting their anger over the system.

Sales of packages for next season topped 2,000 last night after going on sale at 8am. The most expensive payment plan initially came in at a four-year low of £380.

However, numerous fans were left feeling livid after the pricing system, which sees incremental rises as allocations are sold, witnessed costs shoot up by up to £90 in the space of just two hours.

By yesterday afternoon the most expensive package was on sale for £470, while every category – bar under-12s – had seen at least a £20 increase during first full day of sales.

On Twitter, one fan wrote: “Season ticket holder for 25 years and ended up paying £50 more than initial price due to work commitments. What price for loyalty!”

Another disgruntled fan seethed: “People are panic buying just now, expecting the prices to rise! Poor effort.”

The club had warned fans throughout last week that the initial prices would be subject to change without notification, although many were surprised by the speed at which they spiked.

This was attributed to an immediate demand for tickets, with the Tynecastle outfit insisting they were “inundated” with purchases. More than 1,000 packages were shifted before lunchtime.

A Hearts statement said: “The clear message to the fans was to buy early to make the most of the discounts and they have certainly taken that on board.”

The immediate funds raised from a brisk day of business could prove pivotal for the troubled club, who have yet to pay the playing staff their salaries due for March – the fifth time this season the due date for payments have been missed.
