Scottish Cup meetings
21.03.2012
Prior to this month's meeting in the William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-final, Hearts and St Mirren have been drawn against each other ten times in the Scottish Cup and the record shows that the Paisley side has the edge, progressing to the next round on six occasions.
At the quarter-final stage, the clubs have met three times with the Saints having two victories against one by Hearts - here's hoping we can level that score up this evening!

The teams had met at the end of February but due to a "hurricane of wind, rain and hale" the match had been abandoned after 80 minutes with the home side leading by 1-0. Hearts' directors decided to offer the players a £3 bonus to win the re-run, a tidy sum when the top wage was £7 per week.
However, Saints dominated the game and Charlie Thomson was forced into giving away a penalty in the first minute. Daniel Gordon missed and shortly afterwards Robert Reid was penalised and Saints squandered another penalty. This time Michael McAvoy shot straight at Hearts keeper Tom Allan. Tom Paton eventually scored for the home side just before half-time and soon after the restart David Wylie headed a second goal. Andy Anderson made it 3-0 with a splendid shot before William Key committed an offence in the box and the former Chesterfield Town striker, Isaac Tomlinson, scored a consolation penalty for the Tynecastle side. Hearts share of the gate was just short of £203. Saints went on to the cup final but lost 5-1 against Celtic.
Hearts: Tom Allan; Robert Reid and Tom Collins; Frank McLaren, Charlie Thomson and Bail Colombo; Isaac Tomlinson, Bobby Walker, Robert Hamilton, Thomas Gilchrist and George Gilmour.

Saturday 11 March 1961 Quarter-Final at Tynecastle Park (34,325)
Hearts 0 Saints 1
Hearts made a bright start but rarely troubled the former Tynecastle goalkeeper Jimmy Brown. Norrie Davidson and Willie Bauld also missed a succession of decent chances, although their task was made difficult by the stout defending of Jim Clunie. Saints also carried a threat on the break and after 43 minutes a John McTavish cross was parried by Hearts keeper Gordon Marshall. Paisley striker Don Kerrigan beat Jimmy Milne to the loose ball and stabbed it into the net for what proved to be the only goal of the game. Despite some delightful wing play from Gordon Smith, the rest of the home players became too anxious in front of goal and could not break down the Paisley rearguard. Kerrigan, who would later join Hearts, also missed a simple chance for the visitors on the break. Saints lost to Dunfermline Athletic in the semi-finals.
Hearts: Gordon Marshall; Bobby Kirk and Danny Ferguson; Billy Higgins, Jimmy Milne and John Cumming; Gordon Smith, Norrie Davidson, Willie Bauld, Ian Crawford and John Hamilton.
Saints: Jimmy Brown; Bobby Campbell and John Wilson; Rab Stewart, Jim Clunie and Ian Riddell; Jim Rodger, Tommy Bryceland, John McTavish, Don Kerrigan and
Alistair Miller.
Saturday 9 March 1986 Quarter-Final at Tynecastle Park (20,655)
Hearts 4 Saints 1
Saints keeper Campbell Money suffered concussion after only three minutes when he tried to collect a header from his colleague Billy Abercromby and clashed with Sandy Clark. He had not recovered when Neil Cooper was short with a back-pass and Gary Mackay nipped in to touch the ball to John Colquhoun. The dynamic Hearts winger smartly flicked the ball over Money to open the scoring. Cooper then went into the Saints goal and he was beaten just before half-time when John Robertson sent a glancing header into the net from a Kenny Black cross. After 49 minutes, Black made it 3-0 with a fierce free-kick from the edge of the penalty box and then after Colquhoun was fouled by David Winnie, Robertson scored Hearts' fourth goal from a penalty kick. The Paisley men snatched a late consolation when Frank McGarvey bundled home a cross from Peter Mackie.
Hearts: Henry Smith; Walter Kidd and Brian Whittaker; Sandy Jardine (Roddy MacDonald), Neil Berry and Craig Levein; John Colquhoun (Billy Mackay), Kenny Black, Sandy Clark, Gary Mackay and John Robertson.
Saints: Campbell Money (David Winnie); Tommy Wilson and Billy Abercromby (James Rooney); Neil Cooper, Peter Godfrey and Steve Clarke; Tony Fitzpatrick, Peter Mackie, Frank McGarvey, Brian Gallagher and Gardner Speirs.
