Windy conditions limited both teams at Pittodrie

Neither Aberdeen nor Hearts could break the deadlock over a blustery 90 minutes at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen's Rory Fallon had the best chance of the game on 17 minutes, but headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

Hearts forward John Sutton was foiled by Jason Brown after the goalkeeper's clearance was blown into his path.

Aberdeen looked the more likely to score, and in the second period first Kari Arnason and then Rob Milsom went wide as the game ended goalless.

Hearts had looked the more sprightly in the early stages, but it was New Zealander Fallon who had an excellent chance to open the scoring for the home team.

Scott Vernon did well on the right before crossing into the box but, with Hearts goalkeeper Marian Kello advancing for the ball, Fallon lacked conviction as he headed the ball wide.

That was the best chance for either side in a wind-affected first 45 minutes.

But, Ryan Jack also managed to force a save from Kello with a shot across goal, while Hearts' only half-chance came when Dons goalkeeper Jason Brown's clearance blew into the path of John Sutton - although the keeper saved the effort from 18 yards.

David Obua for Hearts and, in the second half, Aberdeen substitute Chris Clark both had snap-shots from inside the box, but both efforts ended up nearer the corner flag than the net.

The Dons went close again from a well-worked free kick after 54 minutes when Kari Arnason drilled a low shot into the side netting from 25 yards.

But, in general, both teams struggled to gain any real fluency, and when Andrew Driver had the chance to bear down on the Dons goal, the Hearts wide man's touch was too heavy, allowing Brown to collect at his feet.

Milsom watched a late header go past the post as Aberdeen finished the stronger side.
