Player ratings: Hearts v Tottenham

Aug 19 2011 By Anthony Haggerty

Hearts

Marian Kello 6

Can't be faulted for any of the goals as he was beaten by some clinical finishes.

Jamie Hamill 6

Had the unenviable task of trying to shackle Bale and almost caught out Gomes with free-kick.

Andy Webster 5

Found wanting at all three goals as Spurs played intricate passes around him.

Marius Zaliukas 5

Frailties exposed at goals and was culpable alongside Webster as Spurs ploughed a furrow right through centre of Jambos defence.

Danny Grainger 5

Another who found the trickery of Lennon on the flank a bit too hot to handle at times.

David Templeton 5

Youngster was starved of any real decent ball and found it hard to be creative in the final third.

Adrian Mrowiec 5

Not only one chasing shadows but was up against superior players in Kranjcar and van de Vaart.

Ian Black 6

Got stuck right in and at least tried to be positive but came off second best in joust with Livermore.

Andrew Driver 5

Is clearly not fully fit yet and left Hamill exposed to the threat of Bale on too many occasions.

Ryan Stevenson 7

Hearts' best performer on the night. Had a shot that sailed wide in the first half and clipped one just over the top after the break.

John Sutton 5

Fired in wayward effort after 10 minutes but former Spurs youth was never given a sniff at goal.

Subs: Stephen Elliott - replaced Driver after 64 minutes but it was already lost cause, 4. Rudi Skacel - on for ineffective Sutton for last 16 minutes, 3. David Obua - got 10 minutes for Mrowiec, 2. Not used: MacDonald, Jonsson, McGowan, Novikovas.

Spurs

Heurelho Gomes 6

Never really tested by the Hearts attack but did flap badly at Hamill free-kick.

Kyle Walker 6

Caught in possession in second half after Jambos came flying out the traps but settled back well.

Michael Dawson 7

Coped easily with Hearts as an attacking force and probably expected a tougher contest.

Younes Kaboul 7

Should have burst the net and made it 4-0 and another who hardly had to break stride.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto 7

Snuffed out the threat of Driver easily and had a relatively comfortable shift at left back.

Aaron Lennon 7

Gave Grainger a torrid time in opening period with his electrifying pace and scored the fifth.

Jake Livermore 7

Slotted home the third and youngster got the better of Black all evening.

Niko Kranjcar 9

Sprayed passed about for fun and gave Jambos a clinical lesson in art of keep-ball. A joy to watch.

Gareth Bale 8

Almost deployed as a striker, he oozed class, confidence and what an engine he has. Rolled in a delightful fourth from Huddlestone pass.

Rafael van der Vaart 8

Appeared to handle the ball before stroking home opener but his technique and skill had be admired.

Jermain Defoe 8

Put the finishing touches to a fine, flowing move for 2-0 and involved in setting up two other goals.

Subs: Tom Huddlestone - on for van der Vaart and slid in Bale for fourth, 5. Andros Townsend - deputised well enough for Bale, 3. Roman Pavlyuchenko - got final 12 minutes in place of Defoe, 2. Not used: Friedel, Bassong, Corluka, Cudicini.

Referee: P Tagliavento (Italy).
