Hearts left Ibrox still waiting to secure their European position after losing 4-0 to Ibrox.

The match had started well for the Jambos and for the first 25 minutes they were the better side, but goals from Jelavic, Davis, Lafferty and an own goal from Stevenson ensured the team left Glasgow with nothing.

Hearts made two changes to the team that drew with Kilmarnock last week. Ryan McGowan and David Obua came back into the starting eleven, With Stephen Elliott dropping to the bench and Marius Zaliukus missing out altogether.

Hearts started the match at Ibrox lively and were creating chances, David Obua was back in the starting line-up and was linking up well with David Templeton but it was Rangers who came close to opening the scoring in the 7th minute when Jelavic's shot went just wide of MacDonald's post.

Both teams were creating attacking chances and again good play from David Obua and David Templeton opened up the Rangers defence. Templeton got the ball on the left and skipped past a couple of Rangers players before firing in a shot to the back post, it was going just wide and Stevenson was sliding it but was just a fraction too late to put the ball into the net.

Although the Jambos were frustrating the home support with their attacking play it was Rangers who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute. A long ball through found Jelavic at the back post and his low drive was too powerful for Macdonald and it went past him to open the scoring.

Although the home side were now a goal up Hearts weren't sitting back and defending. Obua and Templeton continued to cause problems for the Rangers defence and Ryan Stevenson was making his presence felt, though they weren't managing to trouble Allan McGregor's goal.

Ian Black was the first to really trouble McGregor in goals when he fired a low powerful shot in from 30 yards, the keeper spilled it but managed to get back up quickly and held it well. His ball up the park caused trouble for Hearts and a ball across the box wasn't cleared properly. It fell to Kyle Lafferty in the middle of the area and he fired home Rangers second in the 38th minute.

Rangers were now getting into their stride and added another goal a couple minutes later. Gregg Wylde played a good ball into the box straight to the head of Steve Davis who placed his shot passed MacDonald to make it 3-0.

The second half started quite flat, Rangers didn't play with the same urgency they'd finished the first half and were content with passing the ball around and making Hearts work for possession.

Things got worse for Hearts in the 60th minute when Eggert Jonsson was sent off. His challenge was late and Iain Brines decided it deserved a straight red.

Kyle Lafferty almost added to Rangers three goal lead in the 65th minute when Kyle Lafferty found himself in space at the back post, he sent a looping ball towards goal but MacDonald held it comfortably.

The second half was all about Rangers and although they were happy just keeping possession they were still trying to increase there lead. In the 76th minute persistent play from Kyle Lafferty allowed him to cross the ball into the box from the left causing a stramash in the Hearts box - the ball then fell to Naismith who smashed his shot off the post.

They finally did get their fourth goal in the 83rd minute and it summed up Hearts day. Jamie MacDonald made a triple save from substitute El Hadji Diouf, the ball fell to the feet of Ryan Stevenson who unfortunately hit it into the Rangers net as he tried to clear it.

Two minutes later the Ibrox side came close again when a shot from Healy rattled off the post but the Hearts defence managed to clear the subsequent danger.
