My Hearts future depends on European qualification, admits skipper Robbie Neilson

NEW Hearts skipper Robbie Neilson admits his Tynecastle future may depend on the club's efforts to qualify for Europe next season.

Neilson, who took over as captain after Christophe Berra's move to Wolves, is out of contract in the summer but has only had preliminary talks about a new deal.

And the 28-year-old, who was linked with a move to Rangers during the January transfer window, says the club must finish third and make it into Europe if he is to continue is 13-year association with Tynecastle.

"I have spoken to the club but I think there are 24 players out of contract and that's football now.

"There's always pressure on but it's not about me, it's about Hearts getting in to Europe. I haven't spoken to any other club.

"Everyone was getting linked with teams in the January transfer window.

"It doesn't bother me, it's part and parcel of football. You have to be strong as a player to blank it out.

"For me, it's all about getting a European spot with Hearts and if we get that then there will contracts for the boys. We want to achieve it for the club and if you do then you achieve for yourself.

"The manager spoke about getting in to the top six but now he wants to push us on.

"It would be a great honour to captain Hearts in Europe and it would be a great achievement."
