Hearts manager hails 'changed man' Glen

BARRY ANDERSON
GARY GLEN will retain his place in Hearts' starting XI against Aberdeen tomorrow after drawing praise from manager Csaba Laszlo for his vastly improved attitude.
The teenager started his first match of the season last weekend, reward for displaying a greater work ethic and dedication in training. Laszlo had said earlier this season that Glen's lack of focus was preventing him from appearing at first-team level, but the Hungarian is enthused by the striker's revitalised approach.

Glen will keep his starting berth for Aberdeen's visit to Tynecastle, with Eggert Jonsson to partner Christos Karipidis in central defence due to Marius Zaliukas' suspension. "Gary Glen changed his attitude and if he keeps the attitude he has at the moment, and he listens to me, I will try to help him," said Laszlo today.

"Gary Glen is always a player who can be in the right place, but he must score. We don't have many strikers at the moment and on Saturday he can be in the first XI.

"If you don't have too many choices you must use a player who was sitting on the bench before. Gary is a young player who needs a little bit of time, we cannot look only at him for goals. We will build him up and give him the chance.

"I have a lot of experience with young players. A lot of young players got the chance to play in my teams. For Gary it is important to know you have a coach who is not afraid to play young players, who can help them and give good advice. You must not always listen to people who tap your shoulder and say you are the greatest. After your career it is important to know whether you were a good player or not, but for now it is important to go through your development."

Laszlo said he would prefer the luxury of having greater numbers in attack to avoid overburdening Glen. "I am a little worried about his development," he continued. "If you have two or three very good strikers plus a young striker who has a future, it is easier as a coach to bring the young player in and out.

"At the moment we can have a variation in the tactics. We can play with two strikers or with 4-4-1-1. Gary can have his place in both formations, definitely."

On defensive options, Laszlo added: "My thinking is towards Jonsson and Karipidis for tomorrow. They have played together before and this is a good solution."
