Hamilton Accies 2-0 Hearts

SIMON MENSING’S red-hot streak continued as he fired Hamilton to another victory.

His goalscoring heroics have matched the Accies’ own golden run – with Hearts becoming their fourth straight victims.

He bagged goals either side of half-time to seal a comfortable victory.

The win pushes Accies up to 8th – and Billy Reid reckons his men can finally stop looking over their shoulders.

He said: “We’ve worked really hard on changing our formation and we’ve now adjusted to the SPL.

“There’s still a long way to go but we aren’t looking down, we’re looking up, and this was a great result.”

Hearts travelled without Christophe Berra, who was closing in on a move to Championship outfit Wolves.

But Csaba Laszo revealed he is close to replacing the Jambos’ skipper.

The Hearts boss said: “I have a candidate to replace Berra and if the club if get this player, I will be very happy.

“But the decision is for the board and if they don’t take him, I will respect the decision.”

The Frenchman was the only absentee to a team that secured a late victory over Inverness last week.

Accies signalled their intentions by winning a corner straight from Hearts’ kick-off.

And they continued to press with a number of similar early set pieces.

The hosts broke the deadlock after just seven minutes – although they did so with Jambos midfielder Bruno Aguiar off the field.

He had gone off clutching an ice pack to his head after a challenge with home captain Alex Neil.

And while the visitors were down to 10 men, Mensing bulleted home a header from Brian Easton’s cross.

The impressive Paul McGowan was prominent as Hamilton remained in the box seat.

Accies made the better start to the second half and went further in front with a penalty awarded just five minutes in.

Robbie Neilson crudely pulled down James McCarthy as the youngster’s jinking footwork bamboozled the full-back.

Mensing confidently stepped up and scored from the spot – the midfielder’s third penalty in four matches.

Home sub Derek Lyle almost made it 3-0 10 minutes from time with a looping header, but Jamie MacDonald claimed the effort under his crossbar.
