Hearts told to pay up £10K fine

HEARTS have had their £10,000 suspended fine enforced by SFA for failing to improve their disciplinary record.

The club have been informed in writing that the fee, which was suspended at the start of the campaign as part of the record £40,000 fine meted out to the Tynecastle outfit, is now payable.

At the mid-season review meeting at Hampden on Tuesday, the disciplinary committee wase given little option but to activate the sanction given that Hearts have already had seven players red carded this season.

Hearts now have until 28 February to transfer the cash to the SFA. An SFA spokesperson said: "Hearts have been told that the fine, which was suspended from the start of the season, is now payable."

Hearts' record £40,000 fine last summer marked the fourth consecutive year that club had been punished for their discipline, with the penalty doubling each year.

The Edinburgh could be hit with an unprecedented £80,000 sanction at the end of the current season if their tally for red cards increases.
