Wolves must up their Berra bid to £3mIain Collin Everton, Fulham and Sunderland have also been linked with the defender, who manager Csaba Laszlo has claimed is good enough to play in Italy's Serie A and is also being trailed by three Bundesliga clubs. However, it is Championship leaders Wolves who have made the first move as they seek to strengthen their bid for promotion back to the English top-flight. The Molineux outfit had a £1.5million offer for Berra turned down in the summer. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey refused to be drawn on the new bid, saying: "It is not news that we have had a long-standing interest in the player but we will not discuss transfers until they happen." Sources at Hearts confirmed an offer had been received but that it fell short of the £3 million valuation, with the club currently attempting to ease debts and running costs. However, Berra appears set on a move away from the capital. Earlier this week, he said: "If an opportunity did come I'd like to think the club would give me that chance. If you want to prove yourself against the best you've got to take that chance. If it did come up, I would like to go." Taken from the Scotsman |
