Blame it on the Boogie as defence falls apart

Bert Mitchell

McGREGOR Instinctive

Left totally exposed by defence on both set-pieces for the two goals but produced two brilliant stops from Kingston either side of the break as he kept Gers in it.

WHITTAKER Shaky

At times was shown to be uncomfortable in his naturalised left back slot where positional sense and composure were at times lacking as he endured a disappointing afternoon against his former derby foes.

BROADFOOT Committed

Never stopped trying to get forward and after early problems did a decent job on Hearts wing ace Andy Driver.

WEIR Redoubtable

Held firm in the centre of the rearguard, retained his composure and tried to rally the badly rocked rearguard after torrid opening spell.

BOUGHERRA Woeful

Beaten in air at both goals by Berra, distribution poor and confidence clearly brittle after early Jambo set piece salvo. Regained some composure in the second-half but the damage had been done.

MENDES Frozen out

Contribution was negligible as he failed to link with Ferguson and barely made a telling pass.

FERGUSON Anonymous

Never stopped trying but still clearly toiling to regain his best. Rarely given the space or time to dictate play.

ADAM Passed by

Caught ball-watching at second goal and allowed Kingston to nip in for close- range finish. Superb delivery to find Boyd for Gers response but that was his was only meaningful contribution.

LAFFERTY Passenger

Contribution almost non-existent on the right of midfield or up front and clearly needs to be played in his strongest position....which is?

BOYD: Nullified

Attempted downward header confused Karipidis who deflected into own net for Gers goal. But ultimately outmuscled and manhandled by Berra. Not helped by a string of mystifying decisions against him while being throttled by Hearts captain.

DARCHEVILLE Ineffectual.

Couple of powerful runs that came to nothing as the Rocket proved a damp squib.

BURKE Surging

On for Adam in 55 minutes to provide some attacking threat on right flank. Searing runs led to Wallace's booking and dismissal as he at last gave Gers menace on right flank.

NOVO Determined

On for ineffectual Darcheville in 71 minutes and tried to provide the vital spark on a stomping ground he has enjoyed success at previously but not this time.

SMITH Gutted

Will have been left baffled by the sudden outbreak of woeful defending on set-pieces by a previously solid backline that led to both Hearts goals. Also concerned by the lack of clear-cut chances created by his side who had just one shot on goal.
