De Vries out to torment Hibs againBy Robert Thomson MARK De Vries scored four goals against Hibs in a stunning Edinburgh derby debut back in 2002 – but the former Hearts striker insists he can play even better against his old foes today. The Dutch striker first burst onto the Scottish scene five-and-a-half years ago following his move from Dordrecht to Tynecastle with a sensational display of finishing for Craig Levein's Hearts side in their 5-1 win. The 32-year-old has yet to score for new club Dundee United and would love to break his duck in today's lunchtime kick-off against Hibs, but he insists he'll be just as happy to set them up for his team-mates so long as they get three points. He said: "Everyone still talks about the first game I played against Hibs but that's about six years ago now. I've watched that game back a few times and if you look at it critically you'll see I didn't have the best game. Because of the goals I scored everyone forgot I'd had a bad game." De Vries was so often the hammer of Hibs during his three seasons in Edinburgh and doesn't expect a warm reception from the away fans. He joked: "I don't think the Hibs fans will be cheering for me, that's for sure. I liked playing against them because we had some good games but I'm not approaching it any different to a normal game." Taken from the Scotsman |
