VALDAS IVANAUSKAS WAS SUMMONED TO Lithuaniayesterday to meet Vladimir Romanov, the club’s owner, prompting speculation that the head coach will soon be quitting Tynecastle. Ivanauskas, who has been in charge of the side for only six months, is believed to have said his goodbyes to the players at Hearts’ training complex at Riccarton. The move comes in the wake of the defeat by Kilmarnock and exactly a year after George Burley was sacked by Romanov. The Lithuanian millionaire then went on to sack Graham Rix and Ivanauskas took over in April.A report on BBC Radio Scotland claimed that Ivanauskas would take a month-long sabbatical from Tynecastle. A statement is expected after the pair meet today in Lithuania. However, Roman Romanov, the Hearts chief executive, told the BBC that Ivanauskas had not been sacked. Hearts would not confirm reports that team matters have been handed over to the Russian pair, Eduard Malofeev and Anatoly Korobochka, who are employed by Romanov and were taken on in August as a consultant and sporting director to Hearts. Malofeev is 64 and a former coach to the Belarus national side. Such a move would not be welcomed by the players, if it went over the head of John McGlynn, Ivanauskas’s assistant and the caretaker manager on the three occasions that Romanov has sacked his managers.
