WE HAVE FER CHANCE

DAVID FERNANDEZ reckons Kilmarnock can become the third force in Scottish football this season.

The Spanish striker, left, insists his team have proved their 5-0 thrashing at Motherwell three weeks ago was a blip in a campaign he believes can become one of their best ever.

Former Celtic star Fernandez, 30, joined Killie in the summer after an unsuccessful spell at Dundee United and has challenged his Rugby Park team-mates to show they can become SPL high-fliers.

Fernandez said: "It's possible for us to finish third in the league if we keep playing the same as we did against Hearts.

"We are good enough when our 11 players perform for each other. However, if we think we're better it will not happen - our result at Motherwell proved that.

"We have the quality to make it to the top three and now we've got to show it."

Fernandez has tipped his former Parkhead pals to retain the title and admits Rangers and Hearts must also be overcome if he is to realise Killie's ambitions.

He added: "There are four or five teams who can compete with the Old Firm and Hearts and it's the first time that has been the case in the SPL for a long time.

"Everyone is being critical of Hearts but they're still in second spot and they're not too far away from Celtic.

"They haven't played at their best early in the season but they're still a strongside."
