Ex-Hearts and Rangers stars aye ready to honour Gavin

A NUMBER of former Hearts and Rangers stars will dust off their boots and take to the pitch again in a testimonial match for Arniston Rangers goalkeeper Gavin Kirkwood this weekend.

The Newbyres Park favourite, who also played for Bo'ness United, is being honoured for his ten years of service with the club and will be between the sticks for an Arniston/Bo'ness select against Scott Nisbet's All-Stars.

Ex-Rangers star Nisbet is currently on the books of Arniston and is hoping to persuade a number of ex-professionals to turn out alongside him.

Already committed to playing are Dave McPherson, Gordon Durie and Fraser Wishart, with a host of others expected to agree before the clash on Sunday.

And Nisbet is urging as many people as possible to turn out for the game which is being held at Linlithgow Rose's Prestonfield ground, with a 1pm kick-off.

"It should be a really good day," said Nisbet, whose professional career was cut short by serious injury.

"There should be lot of ex-pros playing which will hopefully be a draw for people while I'd like to see a lot of Arniston fans turn up for Gav, who has been a great servant to the club.

"He's still really enthusiastic around the club and working with the goalkeepers here and he deserves a decent turn-out.

"I just hope it doesn't spoil his day when I knock a few goals past him just as I do in training!"

Admission for the match is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions while there is a smoker afterwards with tickets prices at £25.

A special deal is being offered for Arniston supporters - £30 will buy you a ticket to the match, admission to the smoker and a bus from Arniston to the event and back.
