PRAGONYJambos Euro hopes hang by a thread as Spart a strike twice By Anthony Haggerty HEARTS' hopes of reaching the UEFA Cup group stage suffered a hammer blow last night as they crashed to a dismal 2-0 defeat against Sparta Prague at Murray field. In front of 27,255 spectators stunning long-range strikes in each half from Daniel Kolar and substitute Miroslav Mitusovic gave the Czech outfit two crucial away goals to leave the Scots' European hopes hanging by a thread. And the Jambos had Scotland keeper Craig Gordon to thank as the tie could have been dead and buried but for his heroics. It is a bitterly disappointing setback for Valdas Ivanauskas' side who must now produce one of their greatest away performances in two weeks' time or face the ignominy of crashing out of European footb all's two premier competitions in the space of four weeks. Hearts fell at the final qualifying hurdle of the Champions League last month, crashing 5-1 on aggregate to AEK Athens. Taken from the Daily Record |
