LEVEIN'S TIPPED FOR RETURN TO TOP

CRAIG LEVEIN was last night tipped for a return to management in football's top flight.

Cowdenbeath chairman Gordon McDougall reckons it will be only a matter of time before his former boss is back leading a leading club.

McDougall handed Levin his first crack at management when he put him in charge at Central Park in 1997.

The former Hearts defender has been appointment manager of Raith Rovers after being out of the game since January when he was sacked by Leicester City.

McDougall's young boss Mixu Paatelainen continues to make a name for himself by steering his team into second place behind Morton in the Second Division.

He said: "I always believed Craig had the potential to become a good manager when we brought him to Cowdenbeath.

"He had excellent organisation skills, knew how to communicate with the players and bring out the best in them and they respected him for that.

"Craig won us promotion to the Second Division in his final season before doing an outstanding job at Hearts.

"He will do all he can for Raith Rovers because that's the type of person he is. At the same time you would imagine he will go on to bigger things.

"He has been out of football for a wee while but now he's back and that can only be refreshing for the game in Scotland.

"Craig has joined a team he supported as a kid. He started his playing career there and I am sure he will help Rovers climb the table.

"I think Craig should be applauded for his decision to join Raith Rovers and I have no doubt the players will respond to his leadership."
