THIS CAPS IT ALLEURO 2008: INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL... By Neil Cameron WHEN Davie Weir eventually hangs up his boots only then will he look back on what he has achieved. Captain of Everton, captain of Scotland and a place in the Hall of Fame after tonight when he wins his 50th cap adds up to not a bad boast. But for now he's only looking forward. His football career started with a scholarship in the States then took him to Falkirk, Hearts and Everton. During that time he forged his cap career and after retiring came back for a second chance under Walter Smith. There have been many ups and down but he will go into the record books when he leads the team out today. Weir said: "When I started out playing for Scotland, I never thought I'd get to 50 caps and if I play against Lithuania it will be a great honour. "The captaincy also means a lot. I'm only standing in for Barry Ferguson and we all hope he's back soon. However, to captain your country is beyond your wildest imagination, as is to get as many caps as I have. "My children and I will be able to look back on that down the years with a real sense of pride. Some time in the future I'll be a very proud man." Taken from the Daily Record |
