HALL THE BESTEURO 2008:INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL... By Alan Marshall JIM JEFFERIES last night insisted Davie Weir deserves his place in Scotland's Hall of Fame. Jefferies gave the Scotland defender his first break in senior football when he signed him for Falkirk then took him to Hearts. The Everton star, who wins his 50th cap against Lithuania tonight, had written to him asking for a trial. Jefferies, now boss of Kilmarnock, agreed but when he saw Weir in training, he signed him without even seeing him in a match. That was in August 1992 and Weir was later signed by Scotland boss Walter Smith for Everton for a £200,000 fee. Smith had also tried to sign him when he was manager of Rangers. Jeff said: "No one deserves to be the Hall of Fame more than David. He's a great professional. "He is a proud man and had his reasons for stopping playing for Scotland after he was hurt badly. "David felt he couldn't give his best for Berti Vogts after he was blamed for things going wrong in a game against the Faroes. "He likes working with Walter who gave him the chance to come back."
