Pressley confident of positive result in LithuaniaGRAHAM SPIERS at Celtic Park September 04 2006 Apart from his development as a fine centre-half for Hearts, Steven Pressley's robust self-belief on the football park is something that Scotland has drawn much comfort from in recent years. Following the dreadful 2-2 draw against the Faroes in Toftir in 2002, it was, among other things, Pressley's resolute performance which helped secure an immediate 2-0 away win in Iceland in Scotland's next match, aiding his country's recovery in the Euro 2004 qualifiers. At Celtic Park on Saturday the Hearts captain was once more a pillar for Scotland, and Pressley later said that he believed Walter Smith's side could go to Kaunas on Wednesday night and defeat Lithuania. "I think it's important to try to get three points on Wednesday," said Pressley. "Make no mistake, Lithuania are a very good side - not a top side but a very capable side. From past experience of playing there it is certainly not going to be an easy game, but we must look to get three points from Wednesday. "It will be difficult, but I feel we can win it. These are the games that we must look to win if we are going to progress. Anything against the Italys and Frances of this world is a bonus, but if we can take care of the sides in and around us, then I think that will give us an opportunity." Nigel Quashie, another who excelled in the romp over the Faroes, said that Saturday's victory had not been as easy as many had believed. "We got the job done - that's what it was about," said Quashie. "But it was a difficult game for us given all the talk about our previous result against the Faroes. From start to finish I think we were excellent. "We had to work hard to get what we deserved, but we did that, and the manager has said to us that it will only come by hard work. We had great movement in the game, and I'm delighted for Faddy [James McFadden], Boydy [Kris Boyd] and Kenny [Miller] for the goals they got. "You can see that we have an abundance of talent. The squad is strong and we've got young talent coming through. "In Kenny's case, I think every striker goes through these periods when the goals don't come, which is what has been happening to him at Celtic. But you've got to look also at his work-rate for the team: he works so hard for everybody else. "Kenny Miller is a great lad. Everyone in the squad appreciates what he does." However, ahead of the trip to Lithuania and after captaining the team on Saturday, David Weir, was trying to put some perspective on the victory. "Yes, we have got to enjoy the fact that we did win 6-0 but that counts for nothing on Wednesday," he said. "We've got to start again and put in a performance to get a good result there."
