WEIR DRIVEN BY POINTS - NOT CAPSEURO 2008: INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL By Gordon Parks DAVID WEIR would gladly swap his 50th cap for a win over Lithuania on Wednesday but as for the past - he wouldn't change a thing. The Scotland skipper buried the memory of his last meeting with the Faroe Islands, which resulted in temporary retirement, by playing his part in Saturday's victory. But as he leads his side this midweek, the Everton defender is only interested in gaining three points, rather than celebrating his half-century milestone. He said: "People keep talking about the last time I faced the Faroes and if I buried the ghost of what happened but the past is the past and I can't change it. "I'd rather look forward, as that's what we've done by earning this result against the Faroes. "We've moved on and now have an experienced side with players all competing for places. We won't get carried away or think we've achieved anything. It is all about getting to major championships and we haven't done that yet. "We're looking to the future and the players deserve credit for not conceding and scoring a good few goals in the process. It may be a personal landmark for me to win my 50th cap on Wednesday but it's more important how we do as a team. "It's been a long while since we've had a good start, so a win on Wednesday would mean more to me than my 50th cap." Weir is confident Scotland can earn back-to-back wins and is basing his belief on a free-scoring forward line which is rising to the challenge. He said: "It's great to captain any team but it's extra special with Scotland and winning 6-0 doesn't happen very often, so that doubles it. "We weren't expecting to score as many, but we always thought we could create a few chances. We set a challenge to the players up front to make their mark and all four of them have done that by getting on the scoresheet. "We got the ball rolling by scoring early, which took the pressure off us, so we could then relax a bit and enjoy it. It's a massive thing to score so many but we're not going to do that every game, although it's nice to know we're capable of doing it. "Every game is different, so we'll savour this one and move on. "If we don't get a result on Wednesday it would take the shine off this result. "Any victory at this level is massive and to get another win would get the campaign off to a flyer."
