HOW THEY RATEDEURO CHAMPIONSHIP CRAIG GORDON 5 THE easiest 90 minutes of the Hearts keeper's 16-cap Scotland career. He uncharacteristically flapped and missed a first half cross which should have resulted in a goal for the Faroes only for defensive cover to save his clean sheet. That apart the visitors failed to test him all afternoon and he was a virtual spectator. GARY NAISMITH 6 THE Everton full-back spent most of the game probing in the opposing half. Showed he had the engine to get up the park and support the midfield and strikers at every opportunity as well as taking care of defensive responsibilities. Displayed bravery by putting his body in front of a shot to block a possible goal for the visitors. DAVIE WEIR 6 RECOVERED from a shaky start when he conceded a couple of fouls to turn in another accomplished display. Was content to sit back and cover for the rampaging full-backs and rarely broke sweat during the 90 minutes. Combined well with Pressley and almost scored with a header near the death. STEVEN PRESSLEY 7 ANOTHER rock solid display by the Jambos skipper who won his 29th cap which equalled Bobby Walker's record for amount of Scotland appearances made by a Hearts player. Easily nullified the Faroese threat of Christian Hogni Jacobsen and formed a solid artnership with veteran David Weir. CHRISTIAN DAILLY 6 CHARGED up and down the right flank but was guilty of not delivering the telling cross. No doubt suffering from a lack of first-team action at West Ham as too often he tried to float the ball to the back post with no team-mates in that area. Defensively he was sound and linked up well with both Fletcher and McFadden in the first half. Spot luck: Kenny Miller sidefoots his penalty towards goal and Scotland fans hold their breath as it just beats the keeper JAMES McFADDEN 8 ANOTHER sparkling display by the Everton striker. Started wide right and was constantly jinking past defenders. His finish for the second goal was exquisite â" the best of the afternoon. Won a penalty in the 25th minute although it looked very soft. But overall he was Scotland's best player and tore the Faroes ropey rearguard to shreds. NIGEL QUASHIE 5 A QUIET afternoon for the West Brom midfielder although he won all the battles in midfield he contested. His industry was matched by slick passing and was always looking to feed the front men. Had a glorious chance to get score when a path opened up for him but his shot was weak and straight against a defender. PAUL HARTLEY 7 Quietly effective in the middle of the park and was instrumental in most of Scotland's attacking moves. His long range passing was always a constant threat to the Faroes Islands' defence. But he tended to lie to deep and never really hurt the visitors in the manner which he has the ability to do when he plays for his club side. GARY TEALE 5 CAME on at the start of the second half but failed to have the same impact as the man he replaced, Darren Fletcher. Worked hard but was never in the heart of things. Made a few good crosses that the strikers failed to take advantage of and put in a some tasty tackles. The Wigan star can be satisfied with his afternoon's work. KENNY MILLER 6 FINALLY got first goal of season - but it wasn't one for the scrapbook, his penalty on the half-hour mark just squeezing under Mikkelsen. But they all count and it 1 may be the confidence booster he needs. Brilliant piece of skill opened up defence for Scotland's opener and he was lively throughout. Subbed after hour. KRIS BOYD 7 NOW has more goals for Scotland than caps. Took tally to four in three games and always carried a threat. Took 25th minute penalty and was relieved to see it creep past Mikkelsen. Got great pass from Fletcher in 38th minute and, after first effort was saved, stroked home Scotland's fifth goal. Deprived his hat-trick by fine goalkeeping. Taken from the Sunday Mail |
