THE KEY MOMENTS

SCOTLAND got their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign off to a great start as they hit the Faroe Islands for six.

Walter Smith's men dazzled in the first 45 minutes but played like a team who were cruising in the second 45.

However, a late strike by sub Garry O'Connor sent the fans away with smiles on their faces.

Here we look at how the events unfolded yesterday:

3.04: Paul Hartley has Scotland's first attempt at goal but the Hearts star's effort goes just past from 30 yards.

3.07: Kenny Miller jinks to the byeline and his cross is forced over the line at the back post by Darren Fletcher from eight yards to put the Scots ahead.

3.10:Miller bursts into the box but can't get a shot away. The ball runs to James McFadden who curls it home from the edge of the area.

3.18: Faroes have their first attempt at goal but Oli Johannesen's 25-yard free-kick is deflected wide.

3.23:McFadden is tripped and ref Igor Egorov points to the spot. It's a soft award but Kris Boyd couldn't care less as he tucks his effort home.

3.29: Atli Danielsen handles in the box aftermore trickery from Fletcher and Scotland get their second penalty. Miller steps up and just squeezes the ball under Jakup Mikkelsen to make it four.

3.36: Hartley sends Fletcher clean through but t h e Man United ace fires straight at Mikkelsen from the angle of the box.

3.37: Fletcher sends Boyd haring into the box with a defence splitting pass and the Rangers striker nets at the second attempt.

3.40: Fletcher and Frodi Benjaminsen go into the book following a bust-up.

3.43: Miller also cops a yellow when he throws an arm at Johannesen.

4.00: Wigan wide man Gary Teale replaces Fletcher as the second half kicks off.

4.02: Boyd tumbles under a Danielsen challenge in the box but Egerov waves play on.

4.07: McFadden picks up a loose ball but just fails to find Boyd at the back post.

4.08: Hartley plays a weighted pass over the top that Boyd just fails to connect with.

4.13: Johannesen hauls down Boyd on the edge of the box and keeper Mikkelsen makes a great stop from McFadden's curling free-kick.

4.16: Lokomotiv Moscow striker O'Connor enters the fray in place of Celtic star Miller.

4.19: O'Connor fires just over after a Nigel Quashie lay-off.

4.26: Danielsen forces Craig Gordon to tip over with a curling 35-yard free-kick.

4.35: Boyd gets his head to a Teale cross but Mikkelsen pushes it away.

4.36: McFadden skins his man but Mikkelsen saves his shot from 20 yards.

4.40: O'Connor wrap up a memorable win by adding the sixth from close range.
