SCOTLAND INTERNATIONAL WEBSTER SIGNS UNIQUE LATICS DEAL

Wigan Athletic have today confirmed that former Heart of Midlothian defender Andy Webster has signed a deal to join the JJB Stadium side.

The move has been unique in the annals of the association football game itself as it involved a player walking out of his contract despite it having just over a year left on it. And, a Scotland regular, used a new FIFA rule in order to walk away from Hearts in April of this year. However, his actions resulted in him only being employable by any other country except Scotland.

The move has been ongoing for almost two months with Latics anxious to do the right things in connection with this complicated move. As it stands now Latics are awaiting confirmation from FIFA, thought to be imminent, that Andy can make the switch to the best League in the world with Wigan Athletic, provided a wrangle over who exactly compensates Hearts for their loss.

The Wigan club themselves were ready to pay Hearts what they wanted for Andy, but in doing so they could have landed themselves in hot water, as Andy is not a Hearts player. Exactly how the Jambo's are to be compensated will now be dealt with by FIFA.

All kinds of lawyers and football administrators have been involved with this particular transfer and manager Paul Jewell is delighted that he has now got his man, who he feels will fit perfectly into the tremendous team spirit and work ethic of his Premiership storming team.
