How Hearts rated . . .JAMES MORGAN August 10 2006 Craig Gordon Was the one cool head in Hearts colours and could do nothing about the Athens goals, although he was almost caught out by Julio Cesar's cross shot in first half: 7 Robbie Neilson Slipped early on - a mistake which resulted in sustained pressure. Struggled to cope with Cesar's marauding runs: 6 Takis Fyssas Started nervously, continued nervously although contributed to Hearts' best move of first half : 5 Steven Pressley Crucial block to deny Cesar but inexplicable clearance straight to same player summed up his night: 6 Christophe Berra Struggled to cope with Greek's movement and lost Kapetanos for the AEK goal. Capped a difficult night with the deflection which took Liberopolous shot past Gordon for their second: 5 Saulius Mikoliunas Scored one but could have had a hat-trick with a bit more composure. Blocked Bruno Aguiar as he was about to open the scoring: 6 Christos Karipidis Looked woefully out of position. His assault on Mikoliunas almost led to a goal and the area he was meant to protect was exploited repeatedly by the Athens front three. Hooked after 55 mins: 4 Bruno Aguiar Sent-off, one misplaced after another and made Emerson look like the player who once represented Brazil rather than Rangers reserves: 3 Neil McCann Caught sleeping on the edge of the area as Liberopolous sought an equaliser. Booked for stupid challenge on Emerson after conceding possession at half-way: 4 Roman Bednar Squandered possession, failed to hold the ball up, hit the post, delighted to see Mikoliunas spare his blushes: 5 Michal Pospisil More of a threat for AEK than Hearts. Sclaffed clearance he should have left. Headed subsequent corner against his own post: 4 Substitutes Edgaras Jankauskas Did more in five minutes than Bednar and Pospisil combined. Added physical presence, instrumental in creating Hearts goal : 7 Lee Wallace The Scotland Under-19 defender was turned too easily for the shot which led to Berra's own goal: 6 Calum Elliot Not on long enough to be rated Taken from the Herald |
