Miller: Lennon’s apology for error totally unnecessary

MARTIN GREIG August 08 2006

Kenny Miller confirmed yesterday that Neil Lennon apologised to his Celtic teammates after his errant backpass cost them a draw at Tynecastle on Sunday. The Parkhead captain's rare error let Roman Bednar in to score with just three minutes remaining, but Miller insisted that no apology was necessary. "Straight away he apologised to everyone in the dressing room. He doesn't need to apologise to anyone because it could have happened to anyone because we all make mistakes on the pitch," said Miller.
"Unfortunately for him and us as well we were punished for the mistake he made. Nobody is going to hold it against him and everybody told him to keep his head up and not to worry about it."

It was Lennon who replaced Miller after 66 minutes and the Celtic striker was visibly frustrated as he trudged off after an ineffectual display.
"Every player hates being taken off and I am no different," he said. "I think it was just frustration. It was hard to find space in the game and it wasn't a good match for me. Coming off I felt I hadn't done enough to help the cause."

Miller has yet to score for his new club, but history suggests that he should manage it against St Mirren at Parkhead on Saturday. Miller scored five for Rangers against the Paisley side back in November 2000 and admits it remains a career highlight.
"I've had a few highs but scoring five goals in a game is something I will always remember," he reflected. "It would be good just to get one goal and to get off the mark. After that hopefully they will start flowing. I'm there to score goals but as long as I'm contributing to the team then I will be happy.

Their defeat to Hearts at the weekend leaves Celtic three points behind St Mirren, Hearts and Falkirk at the top of the Bank of Scotland Premierleague, and a point adrift of fourth placed Rangers. However, Miller maintained that it is too early to press the panic button.
"I hate getting beat and everybody else in that dressing room is the same, but it is still early and hopefully that will kick us on and we won't lose again all season."

Meanwhile, Rocco Quinn continued his impressive pre-season form by scoring twice as Celtic reserves began the defence of their title with a 2-0 win over Hearts yesterday.
