PETROV WANTS QUICK ANSWERHEARTS V CELTIC... By Gordon Parks BULGARIAN international Ivaylo Petkov arrived in Glasgow last night and revealed he has 48 hours to do a deal with Celtic. The 30-year-old, who has 64 caps for his country, will train at Parkhead this morning and try to make a quick impression. With clubs queuing up for his services, his agent reckons any deal will have to be struck by the middle of this week. Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is eager to fill the problem left-back slot after having once again had to use natural right-back Mark Wilson in that role in the 2-1 defeat at Hearts. Petkov is a free agent after leaving Turkish side Ankaragucu but Galatasaray, Hertha Berlin and Dutch outfitWillemII have joined the race to sign him. His representative, Martin Reilly, said:"There's no doubt Ivaylo is a quality player but we will need a decision in the next couple of days as there are a number of clubs showing interest and we have other things lined up. "We know he has the quality to be an asset to Celtic so hopefully he can show that during his time in Glasgow. There is a deadline because we need to know one way or the other given the options he has available." Petkov said:"I'm pleased to be in Glasgow and getting the chance to train with a club as big as Celtic.I'll do everything I can to make a positive impression." Taken from the Daily Record |
