Celts Tumble at Tynecastle

Celtic were beaten 2-1 by Hearts today in a match between two teams who at best look average (Hearts) and not as good as average (Celtic).

Celtic were way below the high standards they set in last season's SPL race and really have to get some new QUALITY players in now if they have any hope of retaining their SPL let alone being completely embarrassed in the forthcoming Champions League.

One moment of team brilliance (the only one) ended with a stunning Petrov finish pulling the Bhoys back on level terms after Bednar had put Hearts ahead early in the second half. Sadly, Neil Lennon was to cost Celtic a scarcely deserved point when he inexplicably attempted to pass the ball back to Boruc from the halfway line only for his effort to go straight into the path of the gleeful Bednar who rounded the helpless Boruc and passed the ball into the empty net.

It's very early in the season, too early to make knee-jerk reactions but on the showing of the pre-season games and today Celtic look a pale shadow of last season's team and in desperate need of an injection of quality in four key positions.

Left Back, Centre Back, Midfield and Striker.

Strachan is rightly taking some criticism for his part in the current state of affairs but one can't help but think that messrs Quinn and Lawwell should shoulder the bulk of criticism for not bringing in the FIRST TEAM players the manager identified to them months ago as they continue on their not-so-merry downsizing way.

The money that we the supporters put in week in, week out is there to be spent Brian and Peter. You know the type of things, 53,000 season tickets, new football strips for the kids every six months, Celtic TV, Channel 67, Celtic View, DVD's and just about every other Celtic-stamped piece of merchandise you throw at 'The Greatest Fans In The World' every couple of weeks.

Get spending it now or face the wrath of a support about to lose their patience with you.
