ARCHIE: OUR BEST IS YET TO COMESCOTS KIDS IN POLAND... By Gordon Parks ARCHIE GEMMILL last night ordered his Scotland kids to raise their game and grab a place in the European Championship Final. As the tartan terriers go in against the Czech Republic tonight in Grodzisk, the man who will forever be remembered for his iconic piece of magic against Holland in 1978 has urged his side to make the most of the moment. The Under-19s boss believes his team have still to hit the heights and he's hoping the best will come against a side he insists are there for the taking. He said: "The only thing I hope is that, as a team and individually, we play better. I don't think we've been anywhere near our best so far. "Only three or four of the boys have performed at a high level but the rest have just scrapped about. "If we can get 90 per cent of the team playing at top form we'll win. "We've watched a video of the Czechs, they're very strong and well organised but they set up very defensively. I see nothing that should concern us too much. "The first goal will be important because they will defend in depth." Gemmill is adamant a team talk will not be required. He said: "Players competing in the semi-final of a European Championship shouldn't need to be told anything. "If they don't know the situation they are in by now then they will never know." With Hearts kid Calum Elliot recovered from a hamstring strain, the only player missing from Gemmill's plans is suspended Celtic midfielder Charlie Grant. Taken from the Daily Record |
