SCOTS CLUBS' RECORD V BOSNIANSCHAMPIONS LEAGUE CRUNCH... HISTORY will be on Hearts' side tonight when they begin their Champions League campaign against Bosnian side Siroki Brijeg at Murrayfield. When Valdas Ivanauskas leads his side in the capital qualifier it will be the fifth time a Scottish team has faced opposition from the region that was a part of the former Yugoslavia. Perhaps surprisingly, the Jambos have been involved in two of the ties, boasting an unbeaten record. Ivanauskas will be pleased to discover Scottish sides have only failed to qualify once. Here is the record: 2003-04 UEFA CUP 1ST RD Hearts 2 (de Vries, Webster), Zeljeznicar Sarajevo 0. Zeljeznicar Sarajevo 0, Hearts 0. 1998-99 UEFA CUP 1 ST QUAL RD Zeljeznicar Sarajevo 1, Kilmarnock 1 (McGowne). Kilmarnock 1 (Mahood), Zeljeznicar Sarajevo 0. 1988-89 UEFA CUP 3RD RD Hearts 3 (Bannon, Galloway, Colquhoun), Velez Mostar 0. Velez Mostar 2, Hearts 1 (Galloway). 1970-71 UEFA CUP 3RD RD St Johnstone 1 (Connolly), Zeljeznicar Sarajevo 0. Zeljeznicar Sarajevo 5, St Johnstone 1 (Rooney). Taken from the Daily Record |
