I'M STILL SWEET ON JAM TARTSSPL LATEST Bridegroom Michal desperate to stay wedded to Jambos By Gary Ralston CZECH star Michal Pospisil has denied he wants a divorce from Hearts on the day he ties the knot with his sweetheart. Pospisil will wed fiancee Gabriella in Prague this afternoon but insists his relationship with the Jambos is not on the rocks. The former Sparta Prague hitman, 27, travelled to Scandinavia earlier this week for talks with Norwegian outfit Stabaek. But he admits he would prefer to stay in the SPL and lead Hearts' assault on the Champions League. Pospisil, a £300,000 signing last season from Slovan Liberec, scored eight goals last season but was unhappy at rarely starting in attack for his new club. He wants to stay and prove he is worth more to the club than a regular place on the bench - if he is given the opportunity. Pospisil said: "My first choice would be to stay at Hearts and play in the Champions League qualifiers next season. "I like Edinburgh, I enjoy playing in front of the Hearts support and there is much to look forward to at the club, especially the Champions League qualifiers. "At this stage it is more probable I will stay with Hearts than leave the club. I have two years left on my contract and would be happy to see them out. "However, football is very important. If I'm not playing regularly and another team makes an offer I'll have to think about it. "But there must be lots of interest before I would even consider leaving. Hearts gave me permission to travel to Norway and Stabaek play in a nice city, but I don't have much more information about the club. "This was only my first contact with them and nothing has even been decided. I'm not even sure they agreed any fee with Hearts." Pospisil admits his future is unlikely to be decided for at least a fortnight as he prepares to marry his long-term partner. He said: "We're flying to Italy on honeymoon and I don't think anything will happen on my future for at least two or three weeks. "It's a little bit hectic over here at the moment. I've just been to see about flowers and now I'm beginning to feel a little bit nervous about the wedding. I hope you understand it has been taking up all my attention in the last couple of days, not football." Meanwhile, Hearts winger Neil McCann is poised for a return to full training three weeks ahead of schedule. The Scotland international suffered knee ligament damage in his first game for the Jambos after returning to the club from Southampton in January. But the 31-year-old then picked up an ankle injury which saw him ruled out for the rest of the SPL campaign. McCann had looked set to resume training on July 12 as the club prepare for the Champions League qualifiers. But Tynecastle assistant coach John McGlynn is confident the ex-Rangers player will be fit in time for the start of pre-season preparations on June 23. McGlynn said: "I saw Neil earlier in the week and he's feeling good. He's still getting treatment from the physios but he's desperate to get back. "Neil is still a little bit away and it's hard trying to judge how he'll progress. He's at a good stage just now so, a month from now, we're hoping he's going to be ready to begin pre-season training with us. That's the aim. "He is happy with the knee, everything else feels fine, so we're hoping the natural progression will see him back when the rest of the boys come back. Let's hope it's right this time." But former Portugal Under-21 defender Jose Goncalves looks set for a lengthier spell on the sidelines with the hamstring tear which saw him miss the end of this season. McGlynn added: "It looks more likely that we'll see McCann before we do Goncalves. "We gather Jose's progress is reasonable but he suffered his injury after McCann did, so he was always going to be touch and go to be back in time for pre-season." Taken from the Daily Record |
