WEIR'S ON HIS WAY TO DUMFRIES

TYNECASTLE LATEST

HEARTS striker Graham Weir yesterday made his Queen of the South loan spell permanent after agreeing a one-year deal with the First Division outfit.

The 21-year-old was last week told he is not part of Vladimir Romanov's plans and Queens boss Ian McCall moved swiftly to ensure the hitman would be extending his stay at Palmerston.

Weir's campaign at Hearts got off to the worst possible start when he broke his leg and had a pin inserted in his ankle during pre-season.

The Jambos then decided to farm out the Harthill-born player to Queens in January and he helped save the club from relegation.

And Weir said: "The news I was not going to be offered a new deal was not really a shock but having spent six years there I was still a bit gutted. But the move to Queens has been good for me.

"The gaffer has given me a chance and the fans have been great with me so that helped in my decision."

McCall has alread completed the signing of Stranraer midfielder Murray Henderson on a two-year deal and former Falkirk playmaker John Henry on a 12-month contract.
