Meyong finalising Hearts move

Meyong, the top goalscorer in the Portuguese championship is expected to sign for Scottish club Hearts today, for a transfer fee of two million euros.

The Cameroonian striker hit 17 goals in 2005/06 despite Belenenses struggling all season and ending up dropping out of the top flight. It is the first time Portugal’s top scorer has come from a club that was relegated.

Meyong was close to a move to Russian side Lokomitiv Moscow in February, but the deal fell through. Therefore, negotiations have been kept under wraps to avoid the same outcome.

However, the transfer seems set to be completed given that the transfer fee matches the valuation of the Lisbon club, and Meyong has stated his desire to play in Europe.

Hearts qualified for Champions League football next season after finishing second in the Scottish League.

Meyong will join former Benfica midfielder Bruno Aguiar and former Porto striker Jankauskas in the Scottish capital.
