Six games that cost second placeRANGERS 0 HIBS 3 August 27 2005 Rangers were still celebrating the win in the first Old Firm derby of the season when Hibs arrived at Ibrox. The introudction of sub Ivan Sproule saw the Northern Irishman claim a stunning hat-trick to silence Ibrox. LIVINGSTON 2 RANGERS 2 October 26 2005 Rangers threw away a two-goal lead as an inexplicable collapse saw Robert Snodgrass bag a double within 10 second-half minutes to heap further pressure on Alex McLeish. RANGERS 2 FALKIRK 2 December 3 2005 Rangers plunged deeper into crisis after throwing away a two-goal lead against Falkirk. Any pretence of holding on to their title was almost over. Fans protested outside the front door, but Champions League glory kept McLeish in his job. DUNFERMLINE 3 RANGERS 3 December 26 2005 Rangers appeared to have returned to form but they were left stunned when Andy Tod opened the scoring. Peter Lovenkrands (2) and Chris Burke got Gers in front 3-2 but Soto Kyrgiakos was sent off in the dying moments for pulling back Tod to allow Darren Young to rescue a point for the Pars. ABERDEEN 2 RANGERS 0 February 8 2006 Rangers' faint hopes of challenging Hearts for second place in the SPL suffered another massive blow. Goals from Jamie Smith and Steve Lovell earned the Dons all three points at Pittodrie. It was another painful defeats just four days after Hibs had sent them spinning out of the Scottish Cup. RANGERS 1 ABERDEEN 1 April 15 2006 The game that ultimately cost Rangers a last day shoot-out with Hearts. Kris Boyd fired them into the lead minutes into the second half. But after a string of missed Gers chances, a deflected free-kick from Scott Severin gave the Dons a draw. Those two dropped points have proved fatal - but there were many others like it that Rangers fans will ruefully be looking back on today. Taken from Evening Times |
