'We’ll cope with pressure'ROB ROBERTSON at Tynecastle Paul Hartley believes the Hearts players have the experience to cope with the pressure of knowing that victory over Aberdeen on Wednesday will guarantee them second place in the league. The Scotland international is confident they can relegate Rangers to third spot and so clinch a place in the Champions League qualifying draw. With two games left, Hearts are four points ahead of Alex McLeish's men with the sides scheduled to face each other at Ibrox on the final day of the season. But Hartley feels the Tynecastle outfit will have second spot tied up by then. The midfielder said: "We were under a lot of pressure after Rangers beat Kilmarnock on Saturday and cut the gap to one point. We had to beat Celtic to take it back to four points and we dealt well with that situation and now the outcome is in our own hands." Hartley revealed they had taken extra motivation from the fact Celtic had come from 2-0 down to beat them 3-2 at Tynecastle on New Year's Day: "In that game we blew it, so maybe there was a bit of revenge for us with the 3-0 win. It is very important we beat Aberdeen to ensure our final game against Rangers does not matter, but it will be tough. "Celtic gave us a difficult game. There is no way they came here to lie down and you could see that from the team they put out. "Making it into the [Champions League] means everything to us. You watch it on TV and see the players and teams you could play against. We are not saying we are going to get there as there will be a qualifying round, but to have the chance to play in it will be special for everybody here. "We are so close. Wednesday night's game will be played in a great atmosphere and we don't want to let anybody down." Meanwhile, the club denied that Rudi Skacel, the midfielder on loan at Tynecastle from Marseille, had agreed to sign a contract to keep him at the Edinburgh club. Officials did confirm that Hearts physio Oliver Finlay had been suspended, but refused to explain why. Alternative therapists from Lithuania have been brought to the club to work with the players, but the club refused to comment on whether Finlay's suspension was related. Taken from the Herald |
