PROUD JEFF GIVES KILLIE FIRM TARGET

David Mccarthy

JIM JEFFERIES is proud of the fact Kilmarnock have not been beaten by a team outside the top four all season.

In fact, the only thing that could make him even more chuffed would be to see his team taking points off the Old Firm.

Killie go in against Rangers at home tomorrow then face Celtic away on Wednesday by which time the manager believes his target will be achieved.

Jefferies said: "We've done great against the teams outside the top four and we've taken points from Hearts and Hibs but have yet to get anything from the Old Firm.

"But we've got them in our next two games and it would be good to win at least one of them. We are still aiming to finish fourth so we need to take something from these games in order to give us something to play for when we take on Hibs in the last match.

"The higher we finish the more money we make and the bigger the budget I will have for wages next season.

"If the difference between finishing fourth and sixth is £50,000I could bring in two players!"

Jefferies has made signing a centre-back a summer priority after learning that Simon Ford will miss the start of the new season.

He sustained medial knee ligament damage at Pittodrie on Saturday and will be out for up to four months.

Jefferies added: "Simon is going to miss the start of the season and David Lilley is struggling with a hernia.

"Also we don't know if Lindsay Wilson's loan will be extended so we are short in central defence."

Jefferies hopes to have Danny Invincibile tied up on a new two-year contract within the next few days.

He has agreed the deal with the Australian, who is now awaiting the go-ahead from his agent to sign.

He said: "Danny and I have shaken hands on the deal.He likes it here, wants to stay and is happy with the contract.

"The only delay has been because his representative is based in Australia and the details have been faxed back and forward."
