Owner Brooks Mileson will buy £10,000 worth of tickets to ensure local children see Gretna play Hearts in the Tennent's Scottish Cup final on 13 May.

The town only has a population of around 2,700 but Gretna have been given an initial allocation of 6,900 tickets.

"We have 120 schools attached to the club and first of all I will buy 1,000 tickets for the kids," said Mileson.

"But I am confident we will have around 10,000 to 12,000 there on the day judging by the interest shown so far."

A 5,000-strong travelling support made its way to Hampden to see the Second Division champions beat Dundee to reach the final.

"I've been assured that we will get more tickets than first allocated if we need them and I'm happy with that," added Mileson.

"You have to remember that it's all new to us. We were playing to gates of 60 a few years ago and now the SFA are asking us how many tickets we want for a Scottish Cup final!"

Hearts are happy with their allocation of 30,800 tickets but will also be offered more if necessary.

"We had between 22,000 and 24,000 at the semi-final against Hibernian at Hampden for a lunchtime kick-off on a Sunday with all the travel problems that were involved," said a club spokesman.

"Over the next few days we will be investigating how we allocate those tickets and although we will first and foremost cater for the season ticket holders, we have to strike a balance because we want to encourage many new and existing supporters, who are not season ticket holders, to come along."

Hearts fans will be in the South West, West, North and part of the East stands while Gretna supporters will be housed in the South East and part of the East stands.

The East Stand has been dedicated as a family stand.
