Hearts fans achieve goal of new homeEDINBURGH'S oldest Hearts supporters club has been found a new home after the original club was destroyed by fire. Members feared Craigmillar Hearts Supporters Club would never re-open after the blaze ripped through its Harewood Road premises, which was leased from the city council, last August. Now a report to the city council's executive recommends that an insurance payout, likely to be around £500,000, is ploughed into developing new leased premises at Greendykes Road for the 300-member club. Director of city development Andrew Holmes said in the report: "In the longer term, the club would like to develop a permanent building on the Greendykes Road site. PARC [a Craigmillar Joint Venture Company project] are currently investigating the feasibility of incorporating the club's proposals within the wider regeneration plans for Greendykes." The club's financial secretary Ronnie Arthur said: "We should be able to attract back the members who have been here for a long time but getting newer members back is a concern." Mr Holmes' report is due to be considered by councillors on February 28. Taken from the Scotsman |
