Cathy gets a ton up for the books

BARRY ANDERSON

HEARTS and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon gatecrashed a birthday party yesterday at the Murrayfield Tower Care Home, as 100-year-old Jambo Cathy Davidson celebrated her big day.

Gordon arrived to help cut the cake with Cathy as she marvelled at reaching her century and being visited by her favourite shot-stopper in the one day.

Despite the age difference, Cathy and Craig clearly had much in common, not least their love of all things Hearts.

Cathy is lucky enough to be able to remember the club in their halcyon period of the late 1950s, when they upset Rangers and Celtic to secure the Scottish league title twice, in 1958 and 1960, and the Scottish Cup in season 1955/56.

Gordon will now prepare to keep Motherwell at bay in Gorgie this weekend as Hearts chase more silverware, but Cathy would argue that his hands were put to equally profitable use yesterday in helping her slice the birthday cake.
