Dennis happy to quit 'title contenders'

PAUL KIDDIE

FORMER Hearts star Dennis Wyness today insisted he has no regrets at quitting the league leaders despite the fact he thinks they can go on and win the title.

With nothing but reserve team football to look forward to under new Tynecastle boss George Burley, the striker jumped at the chance at a move back to former club Inverness Caley Thistle.

As part of the season-long loan deal thrashed out between the clubs, Wyness, 28, was prohibited from facing Hearts on Saturday. He watched from the sidelines as the visitors churned out their seventh straight win to remain five points clear - and sees no reason why his former team-mates can't sustain their assault on the title.

"I think Hearts are the real deal this season," said the forward. "They weren't at their best at the weekend but got the win and can now hopefully go 11 points clear of Rangers if they beat them on Saturday.

"If they can stay clear of injuries and maybe add a few new faces then I think they have got a chance of winning the league.

"Celtic and Rangers are not as good as they were and, if there is a time for them to do it, it is now.

"I don't regret not being there. The manager had made it clear I wouldn't be getting a game and I didn't want to be sitting around playing in the reserves at my age. That's why I was delighted to get a move to Inverness and I'm enjoying my football again. I am just a bit disappointed the Hearts fans didn't see the best of me."
