I'M WELL SORRY FOR MISSING THE POINT SAYS STRIKER JIM

By Gary Ralston

MOTHERWELL striker Jim Hamilton has apologised for the sitter that cost his side a point Hamilton is one of the most capable finishers in the SPL but was left to rue the miss that denied Well a dramatic comeback.

He was just five yards from goal with 12 minutes left and only Craig Gordon to beat when he pulled a powerful shot wide of target.

His goal would have given Terry Butcher's side a point they deserved on pluck alone but now it's three straight SPL defeats.

Hamilton, who won his side's penalty five minutes earlier, said: "It was a great chance and I apologised to the boys afterwards for missing.

"It's usually my distance but I probably caught the shot too well - had I side footed it, the game would have most likely gone to 2-2.

"Most of the time they go in but as the gaffer said afterwards, at least I was there to miss it.

"We had a good start to the season with four points from our first three matches but that's three defeats from our last three games.

"However, we simply need to get on with it. It has been up and down so far but I think the season is going to be like that for us, as well as a few other sides in the league."

Well do not have their injury problems to seek and were minus half a team at Tynecastle.

Players such as Gordon Marshall, Martyn Corrigan, Scott Leitch, Jim Paterson and Alan McCormack are all sidelined and will be joined on the treatment table this morning by Phil O'Donnell, who tweaked a groin after 30 minutes.

Hamilton added: "It's incredible, our physios are now working 12-hour shifts.

"Maybe it'll happen to other clubs. If Hearts and Hibs suffer the same number of injuries as we have, we'll see who has the squads to cope."

Hamilton, a former Jambo, has already questioned the staying power of his old club in the SPL this season.

And he isn't in a rush to change his mind.

He said: "No one knows if they'll go the distance - that's five wins out of five but it's a long season
