Berra a doubt for clash with Thistle

PAUL KIDDIE

HEARTS defender Christophe Berra is a doubt for Saturday’s clash with Partick Thistle after suffering a suspected broken nose against Motherwell.

The highly-rated youngster was forced off towards half-time of last-night’s Fir Park clash after taking an accidental blow to the face, boss Craig Levein admitting he is now struggling for the weekend trip to Firhill.

"He was a bit groggy after taking a bang on the face and we will have to see what the medical experts say," said Levein. "It was a pity as I thought he had started the match exceptionally well and looked very assured.

"Another 90 minutes alongside Steven Pressley would have done him the world of good.

"I am really pleased with the younger players coming through at Tynecastle. We have high hopes for Christophe and he is not far away from being a starting player for us."

Patrick Kisnorbo was complaining of a tight hamstring after the 1-1 draw, David Clarkson’s header cancelling out Dennis Wyness’ opener, while Neil MacFarlane suffered a thigh knock. Both players, though, should be available for Saturday.

Striker Graham Weir, meanwhile, believes he was denied a penalty after being sent tumbling by Stephen Craigan after just nine minutes.

"The guy caught my heels and I thought it was a penalty," he said. "I didn’t dive so expected to see the referee point to the spot. It was disappointing as we had started really well."
