Hibernian 0 Hearts 1

Andy Webster gave Hearts the inaugural Festival Cup in a hard fought game against Edinburgh rivals Hibernian at Easter Road.

The Scotland international climbed high inside the six-yard box in the 17th minute to head a Steven Boyack cross home after Hibs keeper Morten Hyldgaard had failed to clear a corner.

There had been little to choose between the two sides in the early stages but the visitors were gifted their winner following sloppy play by the Hibs keeper.

The Danish Under-21 international made a mess of clearing a Robert Sloan corner from the right - completely missing the ball.

And, when Boyack knocked the ball back into the box from the left, Jambos' defender Webster rose unchallenged to head home.

The Easter Road men hit back and striker Stephen Dobbie brought out a good save from Hearts keeper Tepi Moilanen with a close-range header after good work by Scott Brown on the right side of the box.

Hibs upped their work-rate in the second period and, in the 69th minute, Hearts substitute keeper Craig Gordon, who had replaced Moilanen at the interval, did well to block a near post effort by Hibs substitute striker Derek Riordan.

The Easter Road men continued to push for the equaliser and, eight minutes from time, Ian Murray missed a great chance when he blasted past the post from 14 yards.
