Fans hired Limo but got stuck in a traffic Jam.It was 3pm outside Celtic Park as a shimmering white Limousine pulled up. The crowds gathered to see who would step out. A rock star? An actor? A host of big names had gathered to watch this game including Hollywood star Robert Duval. But as the the pristine plain door swung open it was six bald-headed Bears fans who piled out. Hailing from Craigneuk in Lanarkshire the lads called themselves The Jock Brown Loyal and explained they had hired the limo for pounds 200 for the big day. But they ended up stuck in a traffic Jam as their cup dream went off the road. One nutter only answering to the name of Big Des said: "Everyone expects a big star but instead they get six ugly blokes piling out. "We thought we would we would make a day of it and cheer ourselves up a bit after losing the league." Meanwhile at the Hearts end the party was in full swing to the sound of a Samba band on the sun kissed turf. This was the Jambos big day out in the sun and it was going to prove chance to exercise the ghosts of previous cup heartaches. Among the sea of maroon scarves and Jose Quitongo dreadlock wigs stood Hearts fan Donald Miller. The 55-year-old Jam tart stood in the terraces as Hearts lifted the Scottish Cup in 1956, after they beat Celtic 3-1. He said: "I don't remember much about that day because I was only nine years old but sadly I have much clearer memories of all the finals we've lost. "But this always looked like our year because we played good football. "The team has done done us proud this season and winning the Cup is just absolutely unbelievable." Never has a lump of metal meant so much. One trophy, two teams and one set of fans crying into the sponsor's brew come 4.45. For the suffering Rangers and Hearts supporters this Cup Final was all about easing the pain one way or another. For Gers blanking the memory of ten-in-a-row going up in smoke with Celtic holding the match and the lighter fuel. But for Hearts a cup of cheers to ease the pain of a 36 year trophy famine. Over the years this Scottish Cup has meant so much to so many fans. But this time it represented an enormous pain killer to ease the headache of an empty trophy cabinet. In the end Walter Smith's side left to swallow the bitter pill of defeat. Even before this result, Rangers fans were always going to cry more tears than an onion slicing factory. For them this was the day when they would say good-bye to Walter Smith and a clutch of players who have given them so much to sing about over the years. This was a massive day for the club but after the game the atmosphere amongst the blue legions was flat as a pancake. Clearly the disappointment of losing the league to their arch rivals and now the cup to Hearts was just to0 much to Bear. Taken from the Daily Record |
