Blow by blow...; HOW THE COCA-COLA CUP FINAL WAS WON AND LOST.

Author: McCarthy, David

11 minutes: The match bursts to life as Rangers take the lead. Brian Laudrup races past Paul Ritchie and feeds McCoist, who swivels on the edge of the box and fires a low shot past Gilles Rousset.

18 minutes: Hearts create their first chance when John Robertson finds space inside the box to smash an angled drive just wide.

27 minutes: A crossfield pass from Jorge Albertz finds McCoist and his vicious shot deflects off Neil Pointon, forcing Rousset into a wonder stop.

28 minutes: From the corner, Rangers go 2-0 up. Albertz's cross is headed back across goal by Gordan Petric for Craig Moore to nod goalwards and McCoist steers it home with a neat header from six yards.

40 minutes: Laudrup goes in the book for a late tackle on Pasquale Bruno.

43 minutes: McCoist and Paul Gascoigne have an amazing bust-up after a mix- up between the two leaves Gazza raging. McCoist races 20 yards to smack Gascoigne on the back of the head and is warned by referee Hugh Dallas.

44 minutes: Hearts get back into the game when a Neil McCann corner is played on by Colin Cameron for Steve Fulton to crack a low left foot shot past Andy Goram.

45 minutes: Petric is booked for a foul on French striker Stephane Paille.

47 minutes: Cameron is sent clean through by Paille, only to be denied by Goram's feet, as the keeper races out to narrow the angle.

57 minutes: Charlie Miller is booked for a foul on Pointon as Hearts step up the pressure.

59 minutes: Moore follows him into the book for a crude challenge on McCann.

60 minutes: Hearts get the equaliser they so richly deserve. Man of the Match McCann races past two defenders and sends a low cross into the near post where John Robertson slides the ball past Goram.

64 minutes: The turning point of the match. Hearts complain furiously that John Robertson had been fouled by Joachim Bjorklund but play is allowed to flow and Gascoigne bursts forward to send home a sensational curling shot from 20 yards. Hearts boss Jim Jefferies and his No.2, Billy Brown, have to be restrained as they make for linesman Alan Freeland, who missed the incident.

66 minutes: Gazza twists the knife by scoring Rangers' fourth after a great one-two with Miller.

75 minutes: Hearts come storming back and only a superb stop by Goram denies Pointon's flying header.

90 minutes: Hearts grab a third when McCann floats in a free kick and Weir glances home - but it's just too late for the Jambos.
